Do not fear as you only need to "Claim" your character. In order to do this simply follow the steps below.
1) Click on "Roster" in the navigation links
2) Find your toon in the list. (You can sort by name, rank, level, race, class. or spec to help you)
3) After clicking on your toon from the roster there will be a buton to the top right of your character screen that sais verify ownership, click it.
4) Follow the instructions on that page. (ie remove the highlighted piece or pieces of gear and log out of wow, click complete on the site.
5) And of corse dont forget to re-equip your gear...
